The Caribbean Digital Scholarship Collective website redesign aimed to enhance its role as an information hub for digital humanities researchers in the Caribbean. The project focused on improving usability, accessibility, and multilingual support while maintaining the site's identity and highlighting the network of professionals and projects supported by the CDSC.

The updated website achieved the following:
  • Provided clear, intuitive navigation to enable easy access to programs, resources, and supported projects.
  • Expanded functionality with trilingual support (English, Spanish, and French).
  • Incorporated mobile-friendly design for seamless access across devices.
  • Enhanced accessibility by ensuring easy text copying and providing direct access to calls for proposals and project details.

Process
  1. Navigation and Layout Optimization
    • Redesigned the layout of program offerings for clarity, allowing users to easily identify available opportunities and past beneficiaries.
    • Introduced dropdown menus with detailed options for a more organized structure.
    • Added visual hierarchy to guide users effectively through sections like Programs, About, and the new Projects Library.
  2. Responsive and Accessible Design
    • Designed mobile-specific adjustments, including a streamlined listing for people and partners.
    • Optimized animations and layouts to ensure smooth loading and navigation, even on slower connections.
  3. Engaging Content Presentation
    • Created a new Projects Library showcasing supported initiatives, with detailed project pages for each.
    • Integrated a promotional module on the homepage for highlighting open calls and opportunities.
    • Updated and expanded the About section to reflect CDSC’s growing impact.
  4. Multilingual Support
    • Built a French version of the site to complement the existing English and Spanish versions, ensuring inclusivity and broader outreach.

Tools and Technologies
The site was built on Jekyll and hosted on GitHub, leveraging HTML, CSS, and responsive design techniques to maintain a lightweight and efficient structure.

Results
The redesign improved user experience significantly by making the site more intuitive and engaging, fostering a sense of community among researchers, and effectively showcasing the CDSC’s impact on the digital humanities field in the Caribbean.
