A historical map
goes live.

The project was awarded a grant by the Colombian Ministry of Culture to promote digital documentary heritage.
This project reimagines 17th-century history through an interactive map and layered navigation, transforming academic research into a digital educational resource. Focused on the societal and landscape changes in the Bogotá region, the map serves as both a visual and conceptual centerpiece, engaging diverse audiences from middle school students to undergraduates.

Key Features

  • Dual Navigation:
    • Explanatory Mode: A guided journey led by the researcher, allowing readers to explore topics in depth with expandable hierarchies of information.
    • Exploratory Mode: Empowers users to navigate the map independently, focusing on areas of personal interest at their own pace.
  • Accessible Design: Tailored to meet the needs of varied audiences, the site balances academic rigor with readability, offering a user-friendly experience for both casual explorers and avid learners.
  • Visual Identity & Development: As both historian and designer, I played a central role in transforming linear academic content into a dynamic digital format. I crafted the project’s visual identity, structured the content for clarity, and designed and developed the website to integrate multiple layers of information seamlessly.

This digital platform demonstrates how historical research can transcend traditional formats, creating a grant-awarded educational tool that makes Colombia’s colonial past accessible, engaging, and relevant for contemporary audiences.
